When I graduated nursing school in 2012 and started looking for a job, I hadn’t heard of Holland Bloorview but I read the through the mission and values online and immediately felt – this is where I’m meant to be! I quickly learned that HB was a place that anyone who knew about loved. I was so lucky to start my career as a part of the amazing team on the BIRT unit and make friendships to last a lifetime. I so often felt the joy of helping kids be kids again and understood the therapeutic purpose of colouring at the nurses’ station. I met so many amazing mentors that inspired me and taught me what it means to work together, to invite a person going through the most confusing and challenging part of their life to lean on their nurse as they take the next step, and to truly listen and see the families we work with. I became the nurse I am today because of the decade I spent at Holland Bloorview and the leaders who recognized the potential of nursing, who contributed to our growth as a profession and as people and I am grateful.
